HA-8380/HA-8380V Service Manual
Cautions for assembling Pump Head ASSY
Tightening torque should be over 1.0kgf cm and 1.5kgf cm
or lower.
Pay attention so that tightening torque does not exceed 4kgf
cm. Otherwise, the area with screws may be broken.
Assembly should be performed
with no space between the Oring and metal plate.
Drip-proof Cover
Pump Slider
* If the type of drip-proof cover is one sandwiched between O-rings from top and bottom:
Press the drip-proof cover together with O-ring (P10 silicone) toward the pump slider and make sure the drip-proof
cover does not rotate. If the drip-proof cover rotates at this timing, it may get bitten by P.I when the pump moves up.
<Procedure for tightening the joint if torque cannot be controlled._Tightening control by angle>
1. Manually tighten the joint until it is slightly tightened.
2. Further tighten the joint until it rotates at an angle of 90 degrees.
(Service Mode>>2.System setting>>2.Adjustment>>2.Hardware test>>1.Unit action>>TP2 wash x 3)
M pump>>Send column. Visually check that no leakage is caused in the connection area.
When no leakage is caused, that indicates that tightening has been complete.
4. If leakage is caused, further tighten the joint until it rotates at an angle of 30 degrees.
5. Pump fluid again and visually check that no leakage is caused.
<Procedure for tightening the joint if torque cannot be controlled. _When replacing the joint with a joint with
torque limiter.>
1. Replace the standard joint with a joint with torque limiter.
2. Turn the handle of the joint with torque limiter to tighten until it idles.
*Purchase joints with torque limiter as needed.
*As for details of tubing, refer to the tubing diagram on a separate sheet.

*1 : - Do not reuse 102656: Main pump seal once it is removed from a plunger, otherwise it may cause entering of air
or fluid leakage.
- Some of the Main pump seals installed in the instruments that were initially produced are fitted with an O ring
to compensate for the spring pressure of the metal spring part. However, after-market Main pump seals were
improved, and no longer required O-rings.

Pump drive assembly is assembled so that the clearance between the slider and the pump base
becomes 0.1mm and the shafts of motor and plunger pump make straight line.
When the assembly of these parts is deviated from the standard, there are cases that Pump drive
assembly does not move smoothly and Pump drive assembly related errors are given.
When the fitting screws for the motor of Pumping drive assembly or the setscrew for the slider are
loosened, ensure to perform this adjustment.
The service part Pump drive assembly (STD) (Product Code: 98941) is shipped with adjustment
completed.
< Adjustment method >
1) Take out the motor shaft approximately 8mm. In this state, temporarily tighten the screws of the motor.
At this time, the flat surface of the motor shaft end must face the setscrew of the slider.

6.4.5. Adjustment Light volume
<Important>
Before performing Light volume adjustment, Optical unit cell should be washed. (When Optical unit cell
washing is performed after the light volume adjustment, light transmittance increases since the dirt on
the Optical cell is removed. Therefore, it is possible that an error such as Light volume over error occurs.)
After Light volume adjustment, run measurement with control and compare the result with a
measurement result before the adjustment. If the difference of measurement results is not allowable,
calibration of HbA1c should be performed.
Filling of reagent (Eluent A, Eluent B, Eluent CV, Lite H) should be completed.
When replacing the optical unit assembly and components comprising the optical unit assembly, Optical
AD PBA, set the Optical AD PBA SW1 to CH2 and adjust it. Refer to "6.3.2.PCB setting A-2. Optical AD
PBA" for details.
Adjust the optical unit light volume.
(1) Turn ON the instrument power and wait until the temperature of the LED is stabilized.
Criteria: After about 30 minutes since starting up in Service mode or after completing starting up in
User mode.
< Remarks >
The following steps can be taken when the power supply is turned OFF for changing SW1 setting
of Optical AD PBA while LED temperature is stable.
a) Turn ON the instrument in Service Mode.
b) Select “2) System Setting” > “2) Adjustment” > “2) Hardware Test” > “3) Temperature”.

In the case where ”T483” occurs in “Adjust the optical unit light volume”, as described in
”6.3.2.PCB Setting, A-2.Optical AD PBA”, change SW1 setting of the Optical AD PBA from CH2 to CH3,
then lower the value of electric current sent to LED, and implement “Adjust the optical unit light volume”
again.
Note) Occurrences of other errors than “T483” should be handled in accordance with the
contents of each error.
(*) If “T483” cannot be resolved even after changing SW1 setting of the Optical AD PBA from CH2 to
CH3, implement Cause Analysis and/or replace the parts (LED, etc.)
(Changing the setting to CH4 and even lowering the electric current is not allowed.)

Then, perform 'send column' operation and check that there are no air bubbles inside the piping of jig.
Criteria: Air bubbles inside bubble check jig must not move.
1) Loosen the joint and remove it from the main pump.
2) Connect bubble check jig to between the removed PEEK tube as well as the joint and the main
pump.
To attach the joint, turn the joint by fingers until it stops naturally. Then, tighten further 90 degrees
by fingers.
*Note: If the joint is tightened too strongly, air bubbles may enter the tube or fluid may not run
smoothly as the transparent tube becomes narrow.

5) Again, perform [Send column] operation and check that air bubbles do not move inside the
transparent tube during aspiration with the main pump.
Figure 3 shows the outline of the Eluent flow when the main pump performs aspiration.
When it is confirmed that air bubbles are moving toward the main pump (direction of aspiration)
in the transparent tube, the main pump has no problem.
Therefore, check the points in the flow channel below.

6) When no problem in Procedure 5) is confirmed, perform [Send column] again and check that air
bubbles do not move inside the transparent tube when the main pump performs discharge.
Figure 4 shows the outline of the Eluent flow when the main pump performs discharging.
When air bubbles move from the main pump to the direction of discharging inside the transparent
tube, re-tighten the joint of the main pump.
When the problem is not solved with the above action, replace the main pump seal for the main
pump.

7) Perform [Send column] operation and check that air bubbles do not move in the transparent tube
of bubble check jig.
In the aspiration/discharging operation of main pump, when no air bubbles movement in the
transparent tube is confirmed, remove bubble check jig and connect the PEEK tube again to the
main pump as it was before.

<Precautions >
Immediately after using Piping jig, connect both edges of Peek tube with the included
connector. When storing Peek tube without the connector attached on the both edges, there is
a possibility that fluid will be hindered from running through it because liquid on the Peek tube
tip is crystallized.
Piping jig is shipped after length adjustment so that the pressure value becomes the same as
the value on the Piping jig label. Pressure value is changed when Peek tube length is
changed. Therefore, ensure not to cut off Peek tube.

0 point may fluctuate due to the temperature fluctuation as well as by touching the wiring
and connector which connects Main pump and Main pump PCB. Therefore, make sure not
to touch Main pump and Main pump PCB during adjustment.
1. VR adjustment on the pressure PCB
(1) Remove the left and right side panels and turn ON the instrument power and check that the
temperature inside the temperature control box is stable while the temperature box cover is attached.
Criteria: After about 30 minutes since starting up in Service mode or after completing starting up in
User mode.
(2) Set the digital voltmeter on Main PCB as shown below.

(3) Adjust 0 point (voltage at non-pressure timing) with the VR02 on Main pump PCB so that the voltage
displayed on the digital voltmeter is within the criteria.
[Criteria] Vbase = 0.7+/-0.1V (While the Main pump has stopped)
VR02

*Voltage increases when VR01 and VR02 are
rotated clockwise.
(4) Connect the Piping jig(20kg)(102662) to the column position.
Only one connector (part) is included in the package of Piping jig (20kg), which is to connect with
the joint on the instrument side. Therefore, for the other side, a connector for the dummy column
(97554) or Pining jig (10kg) should be used.

(5) Calculate the adjustment criteria for VR01.
[Adjustment criteria] Vadj
Vbase
P(hi)/20[V] Adjustment range : -0.1/+0.2 V
* Vbase is the displayed value on the digital voltmeter at the adjustment of step 3.
P(hi) is the label value of the Piping jig (20kg).
3kg/cm2, which is pipe resistance after the optical unit assembly, is applied to the actual
pressure of the Piping jig (20kg). This value is used to input during adjustment.
Example In case the Vbase is 0.75V and the label pressure value is 20.2kg in step 3:
>> Vadj = 0.75 + (20.2/20) = 0.75 + 1.01 = 1.76V
Therefore, adjust the value within the range of 1.66 - 1.96V.
(6) Select [2.System setting] > [2.Adjustment] > [7.Pressure adjust] in Service mode.

(7) Select “Volume” and press “ENTER”.
(Main pump starts to descend and then ascend.
When it starts ascending, AD value is displayed.)
(8) Adjust Gain with VR01 so that the voltage displayed in the digital voltmeter is within the adjustment
criteria calculated in Step (5) while the displayed pressure AD count is stable(During the time
between 30 to 60 seconds after the count is displayed.)
(9)If the gain is adjusted, 0 point (voltage at non-pressure timing) may change. Read the value
displayed on the digital voltmeter after releasing pressure inside the piping by loosening Piping
jig(20kg) of one side while Main pump is stationary (“Restart?” is displayed).
If the read value is 0.7+/-0.2V (criteria), press “0” to complete the adjustment. (Do not save the
adjusted value.)
If the value is out of 0.7±0.2V(Criteria), re adjust from step (3)
.
*The larger the gain becomes, the 0 point (Vbase) shifts towards the larger direction.
* Rough adjustment is OK at the first time because it is necessary to repeat 2 or 3 times so that the
value falls within 0.7+/-0.2V. In addition, the pressure value displayed on the screen is determined
by the coefficient setting in the following clause.
2. Setting of coefficient with adjustment menu
(1) Attach a dummy column(97554) to the column position.
Dummy column(97554)
(2) Select [2.System setting] > [2.Adjustment] > [7.Pressure adjust] in Service mode.
(3) Select [Coef.] and press [ENTER] two times.
(Main pump starts to descend and then ascend. When it starts ascending, AD value is displayed.)

(4) Record the displayed A/D count on the screen while the displayed A/D count of pressure is stable
(During the time between 30 to 60 seconds after the count is displayed.), and obtain the median.
* Record 5 points of the A/D count at random during 30 seconds after the A/D count is started to display,
and then obtain the median.
(5) Wait until the screen automatically changes to the input screen. When the input screen appears,
input “3.0kg/cm2” in the pressure value and input the value obtained in step 4 in the A/D count value.
(6) When the screen below appears, remove the dummy column(97554) and attach Piping jig(20kg)
(102662).
(7) Press [ENTER] and obtain median of the A/D values in the same way as step (4).
(8) Wait until the screen automatically changes to the input screen. When the input screen appears,
input the label value of the Piping jig(20kg) in the pressure value and input the obtained median
in step (7).
(9) As Slope “a” and Intercept “b” are automatically calculated and displayed, press [1](Yes) to save the
adjusted values.
3. Pressure indication check
(1) Remove the left and right side panels and turn ON the instrument power and check that the temperature
inside the temperature control box is stable while the temperature box cover is attached or all covers
are closed.
Criteria: After about 30 minutes since turning ON the instrument power with pressing [-] key in
Service mode or after completing starting up in User mode.

(2) Attach a Piping jig (10kg)(102663) to the column position.
Only one connector (part) is included in the package of Piping jig (10kg), which is to connect with the
joint on the instrument side. Therefore, for the other side, a connector for the dummy column (97554)
or Piping jig (20kg) should be used.
(3) Press [Priming] key then feed fluid with [2. Pump].
At first, “0kg/cm2” is displayed but after 45 seconds, pressure value (about 10kg/cm2) will be displayed.
(4) While the pressure in display is stable(During the time between 30 to 60 seconds after the pressure
value is displayed.), check that the pressure is within the criteria below based on the label value of
Piping jig (10kg).
[Criteria]: Displayed Value = [Piping jig(10kg) label value] +/-2kg/cm2
*As this adjustment is simplified for service engineers, the pressure value beyond the Optical unit
assembly is fixed at 3.0kg/cm2. Therefore, the above is more relaxed value than the adjustment
criteria at the factory.
(5) After checking, press “STOP” to suspend fluid sending.
[Supplements]
< Simple check method of piping pressure beyond the column >
(1) While column is in place, read out the pressure during fluid feeding with “2.Pump” in Priming menu.
(2) Disconnect the column output then read out the pressure value during fluid feeding.
(As fluid keeps flowing out of the column end, apply gauze or swab to prevent spill.)
(3) The gap of these pressure values is equivalent to the piping pressure beyond the column.
If the gap is 5kg/cm2 or more, check that there is no clogging in the piping beyond the out end of
the column.
